Herrow there! (I took like 10years to type this post today x_x, I hope you enjoy it!)
Yesterday I went to attend a LanSmash tourney with Zac for the first time! I've missed a few of them over the year because of uni and being away and etc. Yay I finally made it to one!(After I completed Atelier Rorona in the afternoon and I felt so lost and empty I had Zac come home to bring me there hehehe)
I've never been to a tournament like this before so I was tres excited.
Entered the stadium at Mount Gravatt and was greeted by this :o ! waaaaaa first, I went to meet Zeeek's friends ^^ but I only knew two of them D: ..
There's Toki in a Pikachu hoodie and Nick-broccoli-san in red
I got to know some others like Gerard and Rob but it felt very awkward to go take photos randomly of people I'm not that familiar with XD. But I kno, I kno these two photos are horribly taken.
OKAY!
So Zac took part in the tourney for a game called Super Smash Brothers Melee! There were people playing other games like StreetFighter, King of Fighters, Marvel vs Capcom, Injustice, Dota 2, Starcraft and Halo :3
Zac isn't caring to tell me the difference between Melee and Brawl right now, but I've heard Brawl is easier and has more characters and I've only played Melee with him and steph, carlisle, lachlan, kasper and I suck shit at the game.
So as the name suggests, you pick a character and smash away at the enemy. I don't understand why this picture doesn't have the characters Roy, Marth or Mewtwo in it. But the idea of the game is to smash enemies off a platform. Each character has its own attack moves and recovery moves to fly back onto the stage or teleport a short distance. It's quite a tough fighting game D:
Okie so that's Marth up there, the only character I know how to use at the moment, besides screaming away when I get hit, I know how to jump, double jump, smash, recover, shield and grab, very poorly tho. I suppose this game can appeal to girls as well because it has cute characters like Peach, Jigglypuff, Pikachu, Yoshi and such. Marth seems to be one of the easier characters to learn tho. ^^
Okay I have a good reason for picking up this game so slowly, I understand the commands and I can now see some sort of combos and the distance the combo travels but I can't execute them becauseeeee, all my childhood life I only ever used a Playstation controller like this
Enter the Gamecube controller used to play Smash
WHUT! the buttons and layout are all completely different and to me the controller feels slightly bigger but to Zac they're all the same and I have infinite excuses.
So this is the only picture I can find of the commands in Smash, the picture quality is awful I'm sorry ):
My biggest obstacle is using the Jumps, the two grey buttons above the green one, because usually on a sony controller I press O to jump and [] to throw items (in Bomberman) and X to attack. But in the gamecube controller there's three attack buttons A and B and there's the yellow C-stick to SMASH and two jump buttons.
Too many buttons...
AHHHHH ... It's just .. just... too hard ! D:
Yes it's rather difficult for me get used to this controller layout.
Kay moving on to the actual gameplay.
So each player at the lan has their own controller and plug it to the Gamecube here :3 and BEGIN!
So this is Zac's (Syke) first Singles match, and he is raping his opponent, despite playing a horribly weak character called Roy on the right vs Mewtwo on the left, also very weak. At the bottom on the screen there's the number of lives and Roy has 4 (max) and Mewtwo has 1 left.
The more you attack each player the higher their percentage goes, so when you're at 100% and above (max 999%) there's a higher chance of you getting knocked or smashed off the stage and unable to recover. So the Fox at 60% will fly off the stage further than Kirby at 17% if they both got hit by an enemy at the same time.
Ideally in this game you have to avoid attacks and shield and still damage your enemy to get them at a high percentage then blast them with a smash attack off the stage where they can't recover (dash across the screen) back to the stage. There's also platforms and multiple kinds of stages in the game that make it challenging.
So the top left stage is one Zac was playing on and several stages are banned in tourneys but here are some various kinds of stages. So a good player would utilize the stage properties like some aerial attacks cannot work if there's platforms involved so players pick the stage wisely. For me I get very confused with the things on the stage because it looks too messy like Fountain of Dreams stage at the bottom left, it's just far too messy for me to see where my character is especially on 2v2 mode and I panic 'cause I can't see myself T_T and Zac will be like "YOU'RE RIGHT THERE!" or "woman.. why did you just walk off the stage?"
Well that's as in-depth as I can explain in layman terms, watch some videos to understand the game more (:
So while Zac was busy battling ..
(From left) Anthony, Gerard, Zac and Attila (Zac's 2v2 partner)
I was ..
amusing myself with a giant jenga almost as tall as me and very wobbly D:
watching some Streetfighter
and looking at people's HOOOGE computers
The End.
Oh yes, Zakido was the champion of both Singles and Doubles that day! YAYYYYYY !
